*DISCLAIMER* I only had this phone for a few days before I lost it in the ocean.I bought this phone after seeing several reviews on YouTube. It appeared to be what I was looking for in a phone: great performance specs, long battery life, ample storage, good camera and intuitive software. Coming from a Motorola G6 that was nearly 5-years old this phone was a great upgrade and easy transition.I was impressed by my previous Motorola phones and this one did not disappoint. I cannot compare it against other "flagship" phones such as Apple or Samsung, but given the performance and specs, I would confidently say it could hold its own against phones costing twice as much. The build quality is superb and this Think phone has a damn sexy carbon-fiber case. For the money, you would be hard pressed to find a better phone.
I've bought Motorolas for a long time now. I've ventured out to Samsung and LG on occasion, but I've always come back. Motorola makes great solid, reliable midrange phones with about as authentic of an Android experience you can get. I was reluctant after the company was acquired by Lenovo, but I can attest they're still good phones.I bought this to replace my Moto X4 not because the Moto X4 was broken or didn't work, but because I wanted to take advantage of wireless android auto in my Jeep and the newest OS for the X4 was incompatible. I had gotten my money's worth out of that phone already anyways. One of my favorite changes is that the fingerprint reader is built into the power button.. this is MILES better than any in-screen fingerprint reader I've used. It's almost instantaneous. Press the power button like normal and it likely already processed your fingerprint and unlocked the phone.Battery life, as with all of my Motorolas, seems to be a step above the other brands.Other than a Pixel, Motorola offers as close to an authentic Android experience as you'll find. They're not trying to force you into some stupid ecosystem you don't want. Bloatware is minimal. Again, this is why I keep coming back to Motorola.Screen quality is very good. I used to think anything greater than 1080p on a little phone is overkill, but I admit the text does look noticeably more crisp.I have two disappointments, which are fairly minor:1) The phone has stereo speakers built-in, but as others have noted, the second speaker is just the earpiece, and therefore it's much quieter than the main speaker, giving it a lopsided soundstage. I guess it's better than nothing, but not by much. Speaker quality is still decent, but nowhere near iPhone quality. I've yet to hear an Android that competes, though.2) Camera software seems laggy/low FPS. I'm guessing it has to do with the multiple cameras and the phone processing them together to create one image, but it feels like the camera "viewfinder" runs at <30fps. The images that come out are still good. Again, not iPhone quality, but perfectly good for a midrange-priced Android phone. I was just disappointed compared to my Moto X4 because that thing was always smooth as butter and image quality was 90% of what this fancy three-camera setup achieves. I still think these multi-camera setups are a bit of a gimmick. Or maybe Android/Motorola just aren't utilizing them optimally. All of my other complaints are with Android itself, so they'd be present on any brand. Having owned both iPhones and Androids, I like Android for their flexibility, but with each new version of Android I feel drawn back to the 'everything just works like it should' quality that iOS has. Apple feels like it was designed by a small group of people who understood the mission well; Android sometimes feels like it was designed by a thousand of different people who never talked to each other. As these mobile OSs get more complex and feature packed, I'm starting to think I'd rather have stability than flexibility/customisation. For my next phone, I may go back to iPhone... Again, though, this is not specific to this phone--just Android itself. So I guess this rant wasn't really necessary..Good phone if you're looking for an Android! Not the best-of-the-best, but a great balance of capability and price. Probably the sweet-spot of the market.
I dropped my pretty new Samsung s23 ultra on a jobsite and cracked the screen bad. replacement screen for my color phone is not available. so I needed a new phone. I had this one overnight'ed to me. I got a case that looked like it would be the most protective. and i set it up to use as a temp phone. I have been very impressed! so far it's been awesome.Pro's: - Incredible battery life - smooth operation (it is fast and responsive), - flat screen (no useless curved edges) - crisp screen with good colors, - good cameras (not the single best out there, but still very good), - handy, light weight, easy to set up and use. - 'Ready For'!!! holy cow, they did it right! better than Dex, better than old continuum, single best phone to PC user interface i have seen. fast, smooth, and so extremely useful!!! when I'm in the office it is great for sharing pics and contacts and websites between devices, it is brilliant! probably the most understated feature of the phone. the 'Windows 365' for large corporations and such is lost on most of the world, but most basic users can really benefit from the 'Mobile Desktop' mode. it's awesome!Con's: it is only missing 2 things.1: stylus. Motorola already has a stylus phone, they have the technology, should have put it with this phone, or maybe used the surface protocol so when you have a surface pen you can use it on the phone too. really a huge benefit that not enough manufacturers offer. marking up pictures precisely, finite controls with something smaller than the tip of my finger. stylus is huge and should be an option on the next iteration.2: micro-SD card. I know all the phone companies think we live next to a cell tower and have 5 bars all the time, but that is not true. in the mountains the signal strength is always changing. it is so much better to have room to store important file on the phone that you can rely on being there, and plenty of them without have to wonder if you will run out of room. that would make all newer phone better. cloud storage is awesome, but it's not always as accessible as the commercials indicate. local storage is a must. and being able to have more would give this device an advantage over all the rest of the phones that don't offer it anymore.3: More case options. The case that comes with it is a joke. It needs a good rubbery Otterbox defender style case. I have not seen one yet.In short, I really like this phone, the Ready For is so useful that there is a good chance that I will not go back to my Samsung after it is fixed. If this phone had a stylus, it would be no competition, ThinkPhone for the win!If it had a stylus and micro sd card slot, it would be just that much better.
I had purchased this phone based on hours of research into the current phone market during the summer of 2023. I have had numerous other Moto phones previously and was generally pleased with them. However, the previous phone I had before the Edge+ '23 was the OnePlus 7+ due to Motorola falling behind in the mid tier/flagship phone categories.. and i liked the OnePlus if I'm being honest. However, from what I had read, things have changed with the new Edge+ 2023 so I took a chance and went with the Edge+ 2023.. The new Edge+ is definitely a good performing phone out of the box. Fast processing, Nice screen, does not seem to slow down when filled with a ton of apps, speaker sounds good for a phone, decent camera, fast battery charging, good battery life, very game capable and doesn't get very hot, and more! However, I have had a few pretty major issues as time went on. The phone will randomly freeze up and I have to do a hard restart at least once a month. I use my phone for an alarm and it has left me waking up late for work multiple times. VERY frustrating. Also, people cannot hear me clearly when using the speaker phone. They say my voice sounds very muffled and cannot understand me. Also VERY frustrating. Aside from those major issues its a pretty solid phone. But no one should have to deal with any of those issues even on a $150 phone, never mind a "flagship" quality phone. I was on the fence between purchasing this or the new OnePlus flagship phone.. and i sort of wish i went with the latter at this point. I have always had a place in my heart for Motorola since the original Droid came out years ago. I had a few other solid smart phones from Motorola such as the Moto G phones and Z phones in the mid-late 2010's. The Edge+ 2023 has a ton of great potential. It's a great phone aside from my personal experience with the one i received.. but evidently quality control seems to be an issue with it. I wanted to love this phone, but it has left me disappointed. Maybe its just my phone, but its the one I'm stuck with and I have only had it for 4-5 months at the time of this review. I give it 3 stars overall. I'd give it an easy 5 stars if i didn't have the issues.Edit: Feb. 25, 2024Just a quick update.. I haven't had any freeze ups in a while. Possibly due to an update. Also people have been hearing me slightly better while on speaker.. still not great with speaker, but better (somehow 🤷♂️) not going to bump it up a star but it is 4 star worthy I suppose.. this phone at its current sale price would be a worthy buy as long as your speaker phone works 😬
I bought this phone to replace my OnePlus 9, so far it has been running extremely well. The only drawback is recording video, when starting to record the video glitches a bit before running smoothly, I also experienced this with my OnePlus 9 so it must be an Android issue. Overall screen quality is outstanding and the still image photos are extremely good. The fingerprint sensor takes a bit getting used to if you're used to having it on the screen, this phone has it on the side power button but is extremely responsive. There is plenty of storage on this phone as I purchased the 512gb version which is good for those who like to shoot a lot of video in 4k or 8K.The phone comes with a 30watt charger but the phone can take 65watt. Battery life is great as well as charging time
Just got this phone Today. Finally have all my Apps transferred over & installed. The One Con I can see right off the bat is The Battery Charge isn't going to be great. I will say that my phone came completely drained, zero charge, and it does only take just over an hour to fully charge with the Turbo Charge 30W. But from 100% fully charged to currently sitting at 71% in 5 Hours, not the greatest! Also note, not only have I added all kinds of Apps and constant adjustments to my phone Non-Stop in those 5 Hours, but my brightness on my phone is about 75% turned up, which also wears down the battery faster. In other words, I only have the Full Brightness turned down from 100% to 75%, because I need/ like it bright. There is One Other Con, and this is not just this smartphone but virtually all smartphones in general, and this was a Major Factoring In & swung me over to getting this particular phone. All these companies are basically doing away with - Dual Sim Cards &/ or MicroSD Cards. There are very few phones out there that even have those now. And, when I say that THERE'S A CATCH TO IT! Most are not only No Name Brands, so Cheap and Untrusted, but also you have to really get in there and do your research as I did. It's most likely not as advertised - Dual Sim Card & MicroSD Card for Expansion of Memory. Nope, MOST are you have a choice of Only 1 Sim Card & 1 MicroSD Card, OR 2 Sim Cards ONLY! So, you/ I would have to sacrifice one for another but you can't have Great Memory and The Flexibility of 2 Sims/ #. I'm Not carrying around 2 separate phones. I don't know about you?! So, these corporations are leading us down and away from what we/ I really want to the general thing we all have to have, and that's Technology and go where The Savings are. So, I finally did away with my others number. A Sacrifice that This Phone helped make a little easier on my wallet without sacrificing too much.Other than that one con, which I can easily manage, this phone is really REALLY AWESOME! I got the White/ Stardust, a clear flexible cover so I can see that gorgeous shine and slight iridescent rainbow effect, of course threw on protective glass on front, and this baby shines... But not only does it look good on the outside it's cranked up on the inside. With 8G RAM/ 512G Memory for Storage, 60MP Front Camera for selfies, 50MP for all other pix on the Back, & a plethora of all kinds of other features I haven't even begun to dive into and explore yet. This is by far the best Smartphone I've had to date. Because I'm NEVER going to spend anywhere near 1K or greater on a phone, as in EVER!!!... And, I just got off the phone with my friend that the day before I bought this phone she just got the new iPhone 15. She was greatly disappointed that my camera's and memory far exceeds hers, and that's a Thousand Dollar Phone. You can have your Apples! I've been using Motorola since my very first Flip Phone back in 1995. LOL So, there's a little info for you. Enjoy the Moto Edge Plus 2022 Flagship. Sail on!
My Huawei Mate 20 Pro started to have issues of randomly rebooting after three-plus years of use. I first replaced it with a Google Pixel 7, but disliked it after two weeks of use. The battery life of the Pixel 7 does not last a whole day and the touch screen is not sensitive after using a screen protector (I turned on the option to increase screen sensitivity). I decided to give Motorola Edge + (2022) a try. I had to pay $100 extra to bump the storage of my Pixel 7 from 125 GB to 256 GB, and this Moto Edge + (2022) has $512 GB storage! It seemed a good deal. I read quite a few reviews, and none spoke highly of this phone. Now I have had this phone for about a month and I can report that I like everything this phone offers. This phone functions well as a calling device. Good reception outside and it supports WIFI calling on the T-Mobile network. By default, the WIFI calling is not enabled, but I got a message from T-Mobile with detailed instructions on how to enable it. That part was easy. I also updated the system with 6 periodic updates. At the time of this writing, the latest system update was from 12/1/2022. I find the volume of the speaker decent, comparable to other phones my other family members or I have used before. The phone takes clear pictures under low light conditions. I can tell that there are some software enhancements to the pictures. Some people find it not acceptable, but I think it is probably a choice of personal tastes. I am neutral about using AI to enhance pictures. Overall, I think the camera on this phone performed better than my expectations.I like the overall design of this phone. The layout of the cameras looks better than the Pixel 7. I also find the fingerprint reader integrated with the power button a better idea than the on-screen placement. It's much faster compared with the Pixel 7. When I use Android Pay on this phone, it is much easier to unlock the phone with the outside fingerprint reader. With all other features such as NFC, wireless charging, long battery life, 8 GB memory (can increase to 10 GB with onboard storage), 512 GB of storage, and a low price of $499, I definitely think it is a much better deal compared to Google Pixel 7 or even the pro version of it. I haven't tried the Motorola Ready For functions, which can use the phone as a high-res webcam or a desktop computer. They all sound like something useful and are surprises to me.
I have some older and much slower Android phones. Moto Edge Plus + 2022 is also faster with same apps than iPhone 6sPlus. Width is good, slightly longer than iPhone 6sPlus (prefer not as long, LOL), nice screen, but not the best per web reviews. Maximum audio speaker volume is soft / weak (never loud), but sound exports fine via Blue Tooth. Don't like shaking the phone twice for camera so changed it to 2 taps on power button like Samsung. Not a fan of flashlight needs 2 wrist twists. I like an iPhone type screen. With Android lots of customizations are possible - but so many free apps have many annoying ads. Included Android and Motorola apps are generally good. Not much bloatware. 8, but not 12 GB RAM, much better than 2-4 GB in my older phones. No SD card slot but comes with 512 GB memory built in. Should be more than adequate for most non heavy duty video camera users. With USB C tether, can also be used to securely transfer files or pictures to PC / ? Mac. Battery charging is very fast - but phone gets very warm, likely too fast for optimal battery health - (even 30 W charger in box seems too powerful) so use a low power charger !! Camera gets mediocre reviews and rear camera bulge seems way to large and unappealing. Current phone plan does not include cheap new iPhone or flagship Samsung / Pixel. Price paid (around $250.00 for new in box 2022 model phone on sale) was unbeatable for the performance you get. Somewhat similar performance refurb - not new - comparable phones from Samsung, Pixel, etc. with prices of around $200.00 would be from 2021-2022 non ultra, but FE, 6a, etc. models, and likely with only 80-90% battery health: meaning you likely still need to pay for a battery replacement, which might add about another $75.00 to cost. iPhone 12s and 13s are much more expensive as refurbs. I added 2 low cost CoverOn cases and screen protector glass via Ebay. Uncommon model and poor choice for model name as there is a Moto Edge (? multiple versions for non Plus + models), Moto Edge Plus (without year), M E P 2023, etc. Moto 30, Moto 40 for non US versions and I think each has a different size and some have different camera layouts. Limited accessory choices for M E P 2022 / M 30 Pro and accessory sizes are all different yet model names are similar. Very easy to order the wrong case or screen protector. Moto 30 is the same size as my M E P 2022. Why 4 stars and not 5? It is now a 2 year old phone model with really good screen, reasonable haptics, fast charging, single physical SIM, non loud speaker(s), etc.In brief, a very good new, not refurb, phone for what I paid.
